What decent games can I play online from PC for free?

As don't have X-box or PS3 or a cable internet connection for PS2, I wanted to play something online on my PC instead. Considering I won't be putting my life into these games, I don't want to pay subscription fees (or v.little) for the privledge of playing them now and then. What site/s exists for online games? Never tried them, don't know where to find them. Was looking to play LOTR 2 in particular, but how?What decent games can I play online from PC for free?
