The Sims 3 and Second Life(online game) to be able to play on it without freezing up and the internet not slowing down? How much memory, gigs and stuff do I need? What's the best brand name? Get the best performing desktop you can for your budget.
Most modern games are getting quite high on the minimum spec needed.
I would say at minimum get a
Intel core2duo (minimum E6500 model) or the AMD equivilent)
2GB of RAM is plenty
300GB hard drive will see you through for a very long time
Now as for graghics cards....
Get one with at least a bare minimum of 256MB of ram on board and get one with 512MB if you can afford it, and if getting a desktop prebuilt, they usually come with rubbish cards.
Upgrade to something like a nvidia 9600GT 512mb/1gb they are around 拢100 and coupled with the above specs you will be ok for playing modern games with fairly good image quality and smoothness.
As for the internet,. every desktop pc comes with a network card capable of 100mb/s at least, and the only thing that will slow your internet down is your provider.
