Any online games similar to second life, but free?

I keep hearing about the game Second Life. I love playing the Sim's and it seems similar. I dont like the idea of using real money to do things though. If your familiar with the sims, the sims have jobs and they work and earn pretend sim money, and then things could be bought, houses can be built, etc...using pretend sim money.

You can be at secondlife without spending any real money. Secondlife has it's own 'pretend' money called Linden dollars which you can work and earn or enter contests and win Linden dollars. There are also thousands of free items such as hair, clothes, shoes, gadgets, etc. So you really can get by without spending any money at secondlife.

You don't necessarily need to spend money to have fun in second life. Just log on and go meet people, if that's what you want to do. If you want to customise your Avatar there's plenty of free stuff around. I too have played the Sims and second life is completely different. For a start the Avatars are controlled buy real people. It's also not really a game. It's a Virtual World were you can play games if you wish.
