Do you need a server on online games?

I am wondering if you made a game with maybe c++ and/or blender, or something.



And the game is an online game like wow or something.



Then does it have to use a game server?



And what about virtual world like second life?





Many online pc games uses a server, but tv games does of curse not use a server.Do you need a server on online games?
Any online game has a server. It is whatever PC runs the game. The only way to not have a server is have the entire game run on your own computer, and then your computer would act as the server. If you wanted other people to connect to the currently running game, your computer would be the server and the other computers would be the client.
